“Routine creates sanity and grounds us” - Alex Ikonn
Changing your life dreams when you become a parent
Mimi believes that it all depends on your perspective of what being a parent involves. “There is no right or wrong way to be a parent, but your time and love is what matters the most to your child”, Mimi adds. It’s essential to understand that parenting is a lifelong journey, and there are different phases you need to go through.
You will be deeply involved in raising your child, and this is the most precious time. Everything you invest in your baby will eventually get back to you and you will have an independent, happy and successful child. As the time goes by, you regain yourself back and find time and opportunities for everything you wanted to achieve and create.
“Your life is going to change drastically when you become a parent, but you don’t have to change your dreams and vision of the life that you want to create for yourself. In a few years, it will all pass and you will regain yourself and your time back.” – Mimi Ikonn
There is no right time and there is no such thing as having it all, Alex adds. That’s why, eventually, parenting is all about sacrificing, being aware of choices you make, investing in relationships with your child and finding the balance.
Ethical responsibilities and environmentally conscious lifestyle
Transitioning into environmentally conscious, zero-waste lifestyle has been a long process for us. It all started with the awareness of the environmental crisis we are facing as humans – learning about nature, nutrition, toxic ingredients, plastic pollution and recycling system fiasco.
After watching a few documentaries, reading a couple of thought-provoking books and learning more about what we are facing and how we are robbing future generations of happy and sustainable living, Mimi couldn’t close her eyes anymore.
“The planet is fine, it’s the humans who are facing the issues. Our life is at stake, our future generations are at stake.” – Mimi Ikonn
“We still can act, and I believe in hope and that humanity can do better”, Mimi shares. That’s why, instead of stressing about what you can’t change, you can always start with yourself and implement small actions in your day to day life that can make the real difference. When you become more in power of yourself and your ethical choices, you consume less and feel more aware and more intentional.
Inspired by an environmental activist and entrepreneur Lauren Singer, Mimi believes that the best way to educate people is by sharing your own journey. You don’t need to tell people what to do, you need to do it yourself, and show how you do it, because your actions will sparkle the change in others. “I do my best to just lead by example”, Mimi adds.
Here are some actions that you can take that will have incredible impact:
Start eating less meat. Go for quality over quantity, try to eliminate one meat dish per week and get into the habit of eating seasonally.
Do your best to avoid single-use plastic. Start with plastic bags and plastic bottles.
Be more mindful with everything you consume, from fashion to books, furniture and everything else. Buy what you need and Monitor what you already have, donate everything you don’t need anymore, pass your clothes, get amazing vintage clothes and buy what you actually need.
“It’s not about perfection, it’s about the progress.” – Mimi Ikonn
