How to Have a Great Relationship Once You Have a Child
Hello our beautiful friends! In today’s episode, we want to share with you tips on how to build strong, prospering and great relationships with your partner once you have a child. Tune in now and learn how we have been able to adjust to the dynamics of parenting and find time for each other.
Once you have a child, everything, including your relationship, changes. You can be ready for this whole new chapter of your life, yet still you can’t be fully prepared. Taking responsibility for your relationship and working together to inspire each other to grow and become better is what will help you.
Here are our personal tips on how to have a great relationship once you become parents:
Realize it’s okay to have conflicts
First, understand it’s normal to have conflicts. Continue working on improving yourselves and your relationships with both your partner and your child.
Figure out your new routine
Acknowledge that it’s normal that your life is going to change once you bring a new life into this world. You won’t have the same routine for the first months, just because you will be trying to figure out your new reality. When you set up a proper routine, it will help you so much to have sanity.
Have a realistic conversation on what you expect from each other
What’s truly important is to have a realistic, honest, heart-to-heart conversation about your expectations and assumptions on how you see your lives after the baby comes. Get into details how you see your roles. Define your values and what’s important for you, and accept each other for who you are.
Support each other
Support each other and help each other out. Normally, the woman will be doing 85% of the work, and it’s important for the father to be there for her and to help with cooking, preparing the baby for a nap, giving the mother the break and providing the emotional support. Also, it’s essential to give each other time for yourself.
Get some help
May it be your parents, a sleep trainer for a baby, a housekeeper or a house cleaner, having someone who can help will build a healthy community at your home.
Communicate
Now you can’t just talk anytime, because you don’t want your child to be exposed to your conflicts as it’s unnecessary stress and trauma for them. When you have something you want to express, do a mental note, and communicate what you are feeling later. Sit together, look each other in the eyes, create a safe space for a discussion. Communicate in smaller chunks and avoid building resentments.
Make time for each other
Take care of yourselves and your relationship, so that you can prosper and get better. Schedule regular dates to spike romance and intimacy. Even when you become parents, remember who you are and look after yourselves.
