From Working at a Gas Station to Building a $100M business with Moiz Ali
Hello our beautiful friends! Today we share with you an inspiring business story of Moiz Ali, genuine entrepreneur, speaker and investor. Moiz is the founder of Native, the fastest growing deodorant company in the United States that was acquired by Procter & Gamble for $100 Million. Join us as we dive into Moiz’s entrepreneurial journey and discover his key life and business lessons.
Born in Pakistan to entrepreneur partners, Moiz moved to the US at the age of 3. He saw his parents working really hard, and learned a lot about work ethics and business–how to market products, how to negotiate with vendors, and everything about the supply chain.
After working at his parent’s gas station, Moiz went to Harvard Law school. In 2.5 years working in a law firm, Maiz decided to start his own entrepreneurial journey and opened an e-commerce business, Caskers, with his law school classmate, where they sold craft spirits online. Eventually, their best customer ended up buying their business.
One day, Maiz was looking at the Axe’s deodorant label while standing in the line and couldn’t understand the majority of the ingredients. In that particular moment, he came up with the new business idea that turned out to be one of the fastest growing deodorant companies in the United States.
Native deodorant was first born as an average product, but because of listening to the customers’ reviews and finally finding the right manufacturer, Moiz was able to launch a better formula and quintupled company’s revenue.
Here is what he has learned along way this journey:
Test your initial idea against the actual market. Understand your market and its demands
Make sure you have product market fit before you start selling
Find the right manufacturer
Get to know every detail of your product, from how it’s made to the box it’s sent to the customer
Get help as you scale your business
When you find something that’s working, hold on to it and be persistent, don’t give up so easily
Remember, you have to go through your own unique experience. Focus on your core competencies
Happiness isn’t just in earning money, it’s in having the experience of building something great.
