Becoming a Top Podcaster in the World with Jordan Harbinger
Hello our beautiful friends! We are back with another inspiring conversation with networking and podcasting guru, Jordan Harbinger. He teaches the art of communication and interviews celebrities, authors, and scientists on his top rated show The Jordan Harbinger Podcast. From Wall Street attorney to highly skilled entrepreneur, speaker and podcaster, Jordan’s life and career trajectory is unbelievably fascinating. In today’s episode, he shares some secrets behind his journey.
Jordan was born in Detroit, the city best known for its strong work ethic. Since early beginnings, young Jordan was open to every potential business opportunity, nurturing his entrepreneurial spirit. Little did he know he could start his own business. Growing up, he heard only negative opinions and sad stories about running the businesses. Genuine curiosity was what took him through.
Jordan went to Law School, got the job on Wall Street, yet still he felt like he didn’t fit it. Trying to escape from his awkwardness and doubts, Jordan got into social networking. He started to study psychology, body language, power of persuasion, non verbal communication, neuroscience and was extremely good at it, to the point he turned it into his first business–coaching and podcasting–in 2006.
Jordan’s overnight success took him 14 years. He learnt some very valuable (and very expensive) life lessons and was able to rebuild his previous success on his own. In this episode, he shared some valuable advice on how to start a podcast and, generally, how to start doing anything you aspire to do:
You have to gain self belief and realize you can do it on your own, without people who, you think, will help you. If you need any technical help, go ahead and hire people, but, in terms of entrepreneurial work, it’s better to do it by yourself.
Before you start anything, decide whether you should start it at all. Think of your Why. You have to be very careful and do things for intrinsic value and internal motivation. Be honest with yourself. If what you are about to do is going to make you happy, even if nobody will see it, then do it.
Don’t do things because of desperation. You start making money and really enjoying what you do, when you start doing things from a place of following your pure interests.
You have to be growing, but you don’t always have to be in the same niche. Do small pivots and think of what your audience may be interested in.
Don’t try to pick a topic of your podcast or an idea for your business based on what others do. Remember that you do it for yourself, so it has to be something that interests you and what you are passionate about.
Don’t depend on co hosts and partners. When you are starting, don’t look for somebody else holding your hand, be prepared to do work by yourself.
Encourage your audience to write to you and interact with people who follow you.
Also, Jordan revealed 2 best tips on building strong relationships:
Body language: when you are open, positive and confident looking, people treat you differently.
Every time you walk through a doorway, remember to straighten up and put your shoulders back. Put reminder stickers on a doorway level around you and make this posture your new habit. That will help your body change the impression about you every time you will walk in a room.
Networking (also called Connect 4): send a text message to 4 people you haven’t talked to in years.
When you engage with lost in time contacts, you add these people to your networking list. As a result, you end up with new amazing opportunities, because people remember who you are, and you remember them. This way, you reactivate the relationships that once were dead with simple text messages.
