AMA – How to Build Strong and Nurturing Relationships
Hello our beautiful friends! We have another ‘Ask Me Anything’ episode, where we answer your questions. Today, we discuss whether it’s better to rent or buy a property; share some valuable tips on how to create strong, nurturing and meaningful relationships; and reveal what are the most important things to consider when choosing a life partner.
Renting Vs Buying Property
There is a lot of judgement on how to invest your time and money, but no-one knows better than you what to do with your life. We believe that not having attachment is a good thing, because it gives you more freedom.
Buying property is an investment, and there are a lot of points to take into consideration. Remember that real estate is a long time run. There is no one way how to live your life, but it depends on your values, your dreams, your lifestyle, and your long-term vision. Ask yourself how and where you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years, and this answer will guide you.
“The best investment we have made is to invest in ourselves and start our own business” - Alex Ikonn
How to cope with emotions and uncertainty when your friend ends a friendship with you
Sometimes you don’t feel like being on the same path anymore with your friend, and that’s okay. As hard as it is to accept your friend’s decision, you also have to respect it, because he or she prefered to be honest instead of ghosting you or coming up with excuses. We also encourage you to ask for feedback when the time passes, because it can help you improve and make your future or even current relationships better.
“It’s so valuable to know what happened and why you screwed up.” - Alex Ikonn
Your values and beliefs are too important in any kind of relationship. Whenever you don’t feel comfortable, choose to have an honest conversation and use a straight up approach.
There is an exercise we love to do once in a year with our family members, friends, staff, or even with each other. We ask the other person to rate our relationships on a scale from 0 to 10, and the follow up question is What can make our relationship a 10? This is a very eye-opening and honest exercise, that gives both of us an opportunity to take a closer look at our relationship and understand how we can improve our connection.
Daily practices to build up your relationship with a partner
The daily habits to keep in mind to nurture your relationship is to understand your partner's love language. For example, Mimi’s love language is physical touch and quality time, and our daughter Alexa is the same. For Alex, it’s acts of service and inspiring words.
Also, you have to find the intention and enthusiasm to work on your relationship together, to nurture it and make it stronger.
“Understanding and knowing your partner's love languages and needs is crucial.” - Alex Ikonn
The most important things to consider when choosing a life partner
When really considering the life partner, ask yourself: Does this person see the same vision as you do in regards to daily life you will live one year, five years, ten years from now? The values and vision you share is the major answer to all your questions. These two factors connect you on a deeper level.
“Be in a relationship with someone who inspires you, uplifts you, and encourages you to be the better version of yourself; someone who helps you grow and is growing together with you.” – Mimi Ikonn
